Zodiac Sign: What You Need To Know About Ophiuchus

For several years now, a rumor has been circulating that the astrological signs we believe to be ours are false due to the existence of a thirteenth sign called Ophiuchus, also known as Serpentarius. But what is this sign? Does it influence your true astrological sign and your personality? Let's find out.

There is indeed a thirteenth constellation.

If you are interested in astrology, you probably already know that the zodiac is traditionally divided into 12 constellations corresponding to 12 astrological signs.

However, in the sky, the annual path of the sun as seen from Earth actually passes through not 12 but 13 different constellations!

The Serpent Bearer or Ophiuchus is the thirteenth constellation, located between the constellations of Scorpio and Sagittarius.

2- She does not appear in the traditional zodiac.

The discovery of the Serpentarius constellation is not recent! On the contrary, the Babylonians who lived between the 19th and 6th centuries BCE had already identified thirteen constellations in the sky.

The only problem was that their calendar had twelve months, just like ours. That's why they decided to simplify the representation of the zodiac by intentionally excluding the sign of Serpentarius or Ophiuchus.

3- She represents Asclepius carrying a snake.

This constellation located between the constellations of Scorpius to the west and Sagittarius to the east represents a man holding a serpent at arm's length. It is worth noting that the constellation Ophiuchus divides the constellation of Serpens into two parts.

This character holding a serpent is likely inspired by Greek mythology. It is believed to be Asclepius, the son of Apollo and Coronis. According to legend, Asclepius once killed a serpent and was surprised to see another serpent revive it with herbs. This episode inspired the beginnings of his medical knowledge.

Considered by the ancient Greeks as the god of medicine, Asclepius was later struck down by Zeus for resurrecting the dead, before being placed in the sky as a constellation.

In Greek mythology, the main attribute of this god is a staff around which a serpent wraps, a symbol that is still associated with medicine today.

4- It is crossed by the Sun from November 30th to December 18th.

In theory, your astrological sign is supposed to correspond to the position of the stars at the time of your birth. According to the generally recognized definition, your astrological sign corresponds to the constellation that was behind the sun on the day you were born.

However, in the northern hemisphere, the Sun passes through the constellation of Ophiuchus from November 30th to December 18th. If you were born during this period and want to take into account the exact sky chart, you must consider yourself as being of the Ophiuchus sign.

The existence of this thirteenth astrological sign is a subject of debate among astrologers. Some recognize and classify it as a Fire sign, while others do not!

People born under this sign would have character traits that are quite similar to Scorpios and Sagittarians. They would indeed have a personality marked by wisdom, seeking harmony in their relationships with others but also possessing a possessive nature.

5- This sign overturns our certainties.

If most astrologers are protesting against the integration of this new sign, it's because Ophiuchus completely disrupts the order of the astrological signs as we know them.

Due to the existence of this generally unknown constellation, your true sign is probably not what you believe!

Some astrologers have therefore revised their calculations and proposed new dates for the 13 astrological signs:
• January 21 - February 16: Capricorn
• February 17 - March 12: Aquarius
• March 13 - April 18: Pisces
• April 19 - May 14: Aries
• May 15 - June 21: Taurus
• June 22 - July 20: Gemini
• July 21 - August 10: Cancer
• August 11 - September 16: Leo
• September 17 - October 31: Virgo
• November 1 - November 23: Libra
• November 24 - November 29: Scorpio
• November 30 - December 18: Ophiuchus
• December 19 - January 20: Sagittarius
